June Programs at Anythink Commerce City

mySummer Programs
Plant, Grow, Eat
Monday, June 6, 10-11 am
Learn how rewarding growing your own food can be – along with great gardening tips and recipes for when your harvest is ready. Take home your own plant to care for and nourish. Appropriate for students grades pre-5.

Coffee Tasting
Saturday, June 11, 10 am
Learn about the art of coffee roasting and how to describe different tastes. What’s the difference between light and dark roasts? What are the different styles and how do they taste? Discover your favorites during this fun, interactive tasting. Appropriate for adults.

Summer Bug Safari
Monday, June 13, 1 pm
Get up close and personal with live insects, spiders and other arthropods from around the world. Venture outdoors to see what types of insects live around the library. Presented by the Butterfly Pavilion. All ages welcome. Space is limited; registration required. Please visit our online calendar to register.

Shred the Air
Tuesday, June 14, 5:30 pm
Are you a master of the air guitar? Show off your skills and compete against others for cool prizes. Appropriate for students grades 6-12.

Painting with the Unusual
Saturday, June 18, 1 pm
Use odd objects to paint beautiful masterpieces and explore your artistic side in a whole new way. No brushes allowed – just bring your imagination. All ages welcome.

Bug Bites
Monday, June 20, 1 pm
Discover bug cuisine from cultures around the world and find bugs in our everyday food. Meet live animals that have been on the menu, and taste a few buggy treats yourself. Note to Self
Tuesday, June 21, 5:30 pm
Learn the beauty of journaling and discuss some of the great books that celebrate the art form. Using your mySummer book or your personal journal, express yourself in a new way and learn that there is no “right” way to keep a journal. Appropriate for adults.

Sport Stacking
Saturday, June 25, 1 pm
Strengthen your coordination, speed and ambidexterity – and have a lot of fun in the process. Teams compete in this unique, fast-paced sport that’s all the rage. Appropriate for students grades 6-12.

Elephants Can’t Dance!
Tuesday, June 28, 5:30 pm
Inspired by Mo Willem’s book Elephants Cannot Dance!, kids will create puppets of their favorite Mo Willems characters and participate in their own puppet show. Is Pidgeon your favorite or Piggie? Children and their caregivers will have a great time creating, performing and discussing these lovable children’s stories. Appropriate for students grades K-3.
Children’s/Teen Programs
Tales to Tails
Saturday, June 4, 10 am-12pm
Come and read to our special listening dogs – they love a good story! Our dogs come from the American Humane Association and are specially trained. This is for children ages 6 to 12. This is an especially good experience for reluctant readers or children who are afraid of dogs. This program is the first Saturday of the month throughout the year unless otherwise specified.

Thursday Crafternoons
Thursdays, June 9 & 23, 1-3 pm
On the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, we’ll be hosting a general Crafternoon for all ages. Teens, tweens, families and children are welcome to create with assorted crafting supplies.

Recess at the Library
Saturdays, June 4, 18 & 25, 9:30-11 am
Spend Saturday mornings at the library having recess with your children. We’ll set up fun, educational toys in our outdoor story-time area for parents and kids to play with during this drop-in experience. Appropriate for children ages 3 and under.

Bingo for Books
Thursdays, June 16 & 30, 1-3 pm
BINGO! Enjoy playing this classic game with family and friends at your local Anythink.

Toddler Tales
Mondays, 10 am
Songs, finger plays and story reading for ages 2-3. This program starts up again on Monday, June 13.

Prime Time for Preschoolers
Wednesdays, 10 am
Enjoy a new theme every week with activities, stories, and a craft. Appropriate for ages 4-6.
