September Programs at Anythink Brighton

BRIGHTON, Colo.–August 26, 2010–Learn, play and explore during Anythink Brighton’s programs for all ages in September. Also this month, the Rangeview Library Friends Foundation hosts its first fundraising party, Sparkopolis, at Anythink Wright Farms. Special Events

Eco Fair

Saturday, September 25, 11 am-5 pm

Learn about the state of the environment, energy conservation, alternative energy and environmental resources through film, art, music, and speakers.

Children’s Programs

Toddler Story Time

Mondays, 9:30 am

A lapsit story time for children under 3 years of age who can walk. Time for parents to visit and toddlers to play with toys after the stories, finger plays, and songs. Space is limited; registration is required. Visit our online calendar to register.

Music & Movement

Mondays, 10:30 am and Thursdays, 2 pm

Sing, dance, play games and learn how to play some basic instruments. Parents and siblings are welcome. Appropriate for ages 3-6. Space is limited; registration is required. Visit our online calendar to register.

Preschool Story Time

Tuesdays, 2 pm and Wednesdays, 10:30 am

Enjoy a new theme every week with stories, music and activities. Appropriate for ages 3-6. Space is limited; registration is required. Visit our online calendar to register.

Afterschool Get-Together

Tuesdays, 4 pm

A new activity every week for elementary school children. We’ll have crafts, games, the Wii, and a chance to hang out with your friends.

Baby Story Time

Wednesdays, 9:30 am

Teen Programs

Teen Arts and Crafts

Wednesday, September 1, 15 & 29, 3:30-5:30 pm

Every week there is something different: paints, crafting clay, beading, duct tape. Stop in and join us in making something fun. For teens and tweens, grades 6 and up.

What’s the Big Idea? –Rock & Roll

Wednesday, September 8, 4-6 pm

Teen discussion group that will cover various topics of interest, historical facts and fictions, myths and mysteries. Books, music, slide shows and movie clips will be featured. Snacks too. This month we’ll focus on rock & roll. For teens, grades 9-12.

Teen Film Club

Wednesday, September 22, 4-6 pm

Watch a famous film or a popular favorite. Includes a short discussion of the film and popcorn. For teens, grades 9-12.

Young Writers Workshop

Thursday, September 23, 4-5 pm

Use this time to share, critique and fine-tune your writing skills. Short stories, essays, school work, poetry, ‘zines or the Great American Novel, it’s up to your imagination. For teens and tweens, grades 6 and up.

Teen Advisory Council/Book Club

Thursday, September 30, 4-5 pm

Help us decide on upcoming programming for the library and pick out a good read for the coming month. For teens and tweens, grades 6 and up.

Teen Gaming

Mondays, 3:30-5:30 pm

Play a variety of video games on our Wii and Xbox, or challenge your friends at a board game. For teens and tweens, grades 6 and up.

Role-playing Games

Tuesdays, 4-6 pm

Step back from the computer and put down that Xbox controller. Experience games of adventure with just your imagination and a handful of dice. For teens, grades 9-12.

Brighton Writer’s Circle

Tuesdays, 10 am & Monday, September 13, 6 pm

Meet with fellow writers (active or aspiring) to talk about your work, get ideas, or just find out what they are writing about. Be inspired!

Rowdy Readers Book Club

Second Wednesday of the month, 10 am

Next month’s selection can be picked up at the library so that you can read it before the meeting. Some titles are available in large print and audio formats too.

Bring in your old family photos and finally take the time to make that scrapbook you’ve been putting off. The scrapbooking room opens at 10 am and closes at 1:30 pm, but you can show up any time during those open hours. Bring your own supplies or use ours.

Wii for Grown-Ups

Monday, September 20, 6:30 pm

Try out the Nintendo Wii in a grown-ups only gaming party. Play in a rock band, bowl against others, and play tennis. Find out what all the hype is about.

Learn the ins and outs of Google’s mapping website. Get directions and traffic updates, find locations, and walk down your own street using Google Street View.

Learn how to use some great online resources for car repair, maintenance schedules, recalls and value.

Basic Computer Skills

Learn how to use a mouse, a keyboard, scroll bars, and the Internet -- all the skills that will get you ready to use the library’s computers on your own.

Job Searching Online

Take a tour of Anythink’s new online job center. We’ll look at websites where you can search for jobs, get résumé and interview tips, and find out about switching to a new career.

Book Lovers Online

Tuesday, September 28, 7-8 pm & Thursday, September 30, 10-11 am

Learn about Goodreads, a free website for people who love books. You can keep track of the books you’ve read and those you want to read, check out reviews and recommendations from your friends, and create your own reading lists.
