Downtown to Shake, Rattle and Roll with Denver Day of Rock

Denver’s Largest Free Music Festival Kicks off Memorial Day Weekend

DENVER, CO – May 16, 2011 – Downtown Denver will be transformed into a massive free rock concert on May 28, 2011 when 25 bands take to five stages as Concerts for Kids hosts the second annual Denver Day of Rock. The performance areas will be along the 16th Street Mall, Denver’s mile-long pedestrian promenade, making it easy to roam from act to act. Food and beer booths will be set up throughout downtown for the event, with free music rocking the city from 2:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the first day of Memorial Day weekend.

In 2010, more than 100,000 people attended the free music event, making it the city’s largest one day music festival. This year, Day of Rock has added a fifth stage, four new beer gardens, and five more bands. Stages and beer gardens are located just off the 16th Street Mall on Arapaho, in Skyline Park, at Champa, Curtis and Welton.

Performing this year are a line-up of local and national acts including: Dennis DeYoung: The Music of Styx, Gin Blossoms, Chubby Carrier and Bayou Swamp Band, John Common, Trevor Hall, The Heyday, Bop Skizzum, The Hollyfelds, Boulder Acoustic Society, Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers, Oakhurst, Alicia Witt, The Give, Mindless Behavior, The Congress, The Samples, The Railbenders, Dwayne Dopsie and The Zydeco Hellraisers, Monroe Monroe, Young Cities, Angie Stevens, Strange Americans, KJ Denhert and Something Underground. The Bureau presented Day of Rock with a Tourism Star in 2010 for all they did for Denver tourism.

In addition to the music festival, downtown will also be buzzing with the Downtown Denver Arts Festival, staged at Denver Pavilions and showcasing the work of more than 130 of Colorado’s best artists (May 27-30) and with a 5 p.m. Rockies game against the Cardinals.
